On January 23, a meeting of the Board was held at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, dedicated to the results of the activities of the internal affairs bodies of the republic in 2022 and the upcoming tasks in the field of combating crime, protecting public order and ensuring public safety.
Opening the meeting, Minister, Colonel-General Vilayat Eyvazov said that this is a natural result of the stability, based on a solid foundation, successfully maintained in our country in 2022 under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mr. Ilham Aliyev. The bodies of internal affairs and the Internal Troops have carried out significant work towards the development of the positive results achieved in previous years. Official duties in the field of combating crime, protecting public order, protecting human rights and freedoms were performed properly, the security of mass events of international and republican significance, as well as in the territories liberated from occupation, was reliably ensured.

Speaking with the report, Minister V. Eyvazov stressed that in 2022, state bodies registered 36,494 crimes that are the subject of operational search and investigative activities, of which 95.2 percent are illegal acts investigated by the internal affairs bodies and the prosecutor’s office in a procedural manner. 83.4% of crimes were crimes that do not pose a great public danger and mild severity.
85.3 percent of grave and especially grave crimes, 85.7 percent of those committed in non-obvious conditions, 98.2 percent of those against personality and 81.8 percent of those against property were also revealed with high results of disclosure of individual unlawful acts.
Continuous work was carried out in the field of preventing offenses, identifying, investigating and protecting the legitimate interests of citizens in cooperation with the prosecutor’s office, including the identification and prosecution of 368 criminals of past years.
It was also noted that in 2022 compared to the comparable period 2.4 crimes against the person, including 13 attempted murders, 5 intentional grievous bodily harm, 17.6 firearms crimes, 2.4 family conflicts, a 21.3 percent decrease in livestock theft.

As a result of the operational measures taken, 251 criminal groups were neutralized, 202 persons who kept and carried firearms were prosecuted, and 557 wanted accused were arrested.
Minister V. Eyvazov said that 373 kilograms more than in 2021 - 3 tons and 418 kilograms of drugs were seized from illegal circulation, more than 172 tons of narcotic plants were identified and destroyed and positively assessed the work done in the relevant area in recent years. At the same time, he expressed gratitude to all persons who took an active position, emphasizing the participation of citizens in the fight against crime, in particular, in the prevention of illicit drug trafficking, as well as the fact that many operations with positive results were carried out on the basis of their data.
Touching upon the need for a more targeted continuation of anti-drug propaganda among adolescents and youth, the Minister stressed the importance of focusing efforts on reducing the demand for drugs in the country. In this important direction, he instructed to carry out work in cooperation with representatives of civil society and the media, users of social networks.

The Minister also drew attention to the presence of congestion and traffic jams in the capital and asked, together with the relevant authorities, to prevent such situations, including illegal parking, stopping that impedes the free, comfortable and safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians, and the removal of vehicles that commit these violations from traffic.
Colonel-General Vilayat Eyvazov also touched upon the implementation of such important tasks as ensuring the satisfaction of citizens, an objective and sensitive consideration of applications and complaints, protecting the rule of law, and observing the rules of ethical behavior of personnel and noted that a lot of work has been done in these areas, the results are positive, including that most of the issues raised during the reception and consideration of thousands of citizens' appeals have been settled in court, they promptly responded to almost 3 million calls to the 102 Service, to hotlines and social networks, about 88.3 percent of the material damage caused by crimes was compensated in accordance with modern requirements.

Heads of structural institutions of the Ministry and territorial bodies of the police presented their reports at the meeting.
Concluding the board meeting, the Minister of Internal Affairs took into account the positive results achieved in operational activities in 2022, as well as the presence of situations that negatively affect the overall work, and gave specific instructions and recommendations on ways to eliminate them and the upcoming tasks. He also thanked the personnel for their service to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Colonel-General Vilayat Eyvazov expressed deep gratitude to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, on behalf of his personnel for the high attention and care shown by him to the internal affairs bodies, the strengthening of its material and technical base, the strengthening of the social protection of personnel, the renewal of its infrastructure, the great importance and confidence that he placed in his activities and assured that he would continue his duties in the field of maintaining public order, internal security, legality and the rule of law.
