Road traffic safety is in the spotlight

16.11.2017

527 road traffic accidents have been recorded in Baku from January 1 to November 10 this year. As a result of the traffic accidents, 166 people have died and 461 have been injured. Compared with the same period of the last year, 61 accidents, 4 deaths and 145 injury facts have decreased and injury rates have declined.

The State Traffic Police Office of Baku city MPD has regularly taken preventive measures to ensure traffic safety in the streets and avenues, road crossings, crossroads with intense traffic in the capital city. It is the result of these measures that reduction is observed in the overall index of the accidents year by year.

Thanks to the capabilities of modern information technologies to ensure traffic safety in the capital roads, each of the traffic accidents has been investigated and analyzed in the relevant departments of the service. It turns out that, over the total percentage ratio of the accidents, the accidents for the violation of the rules of overtaking and maneuvering were 23 percent, for exceeding the speed limit were 37 percent and for hitting of pedestrians by cars were 67 percent. During the reporting period, pedestrians not using pedestrian crossings and seriously endangering their own lives and other road users were preventively eductated and informed about traffic safety. Thus, during this period, more than 590,000 administrative protocols have been drawn up within the scope of administrative sanctions, 84,000 of which were pedestrian protocols.

Analyzes with special technical means having photo-video recording features prove that according to the overall accidents in the capital city, the traffic accidents are caused by carelessness or negligence of pedestrians. Careless pedestrians who don’t use pedestrian crossings in streets and avenues, road crossings, crossroads where the traffic is intensive and in the areas where the traffic safety is poor become the participants in road traffic accidents. Especially noteworthy is that the accidents mainly occur near overground and underground pedestrian crossings.

Also, a number of facts related to the incidents indicate that pedestrians do not follow the requirements of traffic lights, and walk out in front of the moving vehicles in the road. In conversations with pedestrians for propagation purposes, they said: “I did not know”, “I have not seen”, “I will not do again”, so they endanger their lives, do not worry about the suffering of their family members for a lifetime, and act carelessly. It's important to remember that being responsible is the key factor for surviving and having a healthy lifestyle. Strengthening discipline among pedestrians, driver-pedestrian relationships, ensuring traffic safety on the roads, in particular the protection of life and health of pedestrians on road traffic are in the center of attention. It is recommended that, every citizen – road user - driver – pedestrian must be careful in the streets and avenues, road crossings, crossroads with intense traffic, must follow the rule of law and respect the requirements of the traffic police and the legislation.
