Commemoration of the victims of the Khojaly tragedy

The Baku City Police Department held a memorial ceremony dedicated to the 28th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.

The ceremony, held on February 25, began with reverence for the memory of the victims of the genocide and martyrs who died for the territorial integrity of our country, with a moment of silence.

Speaking at the memorial ceremony, the deputy head of the GPD of Baku, police colonel Nurullah Mammadkhanli said that the Khojaly tragedy is one of the bloodiest crimes in history. The deputy chief noted that 28 years ago, Armenian armed gangs killed civilians. As a result of this slaughter, 613 people died. 63 of them were children, 106 - women, 70 -elderly people, 8 families were completely killed.

Later, senior assistant to the head of the General Directorate for work with personal personnel, police colonel Ali Valiev spoke in detail about the tragedy.

The ceremony participants were informed that the state and government of Azerbaijan, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and other non-governmental organizations and Diaspora organizations are taking important steps to convey to the international community the truth about the Khojaly tragedy and recognize it as an act of genocide.

The historical merits of the national leader Heydar Aliyev in the political and legal assessment of the Khojaly genocide were mentioned, and it was also noted that it was precisely on the initiative of the great leader that a special session of the Milli Majlis was held in 1994 to discuss the Khojaly genocide, and a decision was made to mark February 26 as a “Day of the Khojaly genocide”.

In particular, it was noted that our people have united around President Ilham Aliyev and support his policy so that Azerbaijan, which is developing today in conditions of peace and stability, will avoid further tragedies.

After completing the ceremony, Deputy Head Nurullah Mammadkhanli expressed confidence that our territorial integrity would soon be restored, and noted that maintaining stability and public security is important for this.
